Now, let’s take a closer look at the San Diego County women’s jail.
Basic Info: San Diego Women’s Jail
The San Diego County women’s jail is located at 451 Riverview Parkway in Shanee, CA. The facility is about a 20-minute drive from downtown San Diego. The main phone number for this facility, and for all detention facilities operated by the San Diego County Sheriff, is (619) 409-5000.
Most women, although not all, who are arrested in San Diego County are booked at this facility. Booking is a multi-step process where arrested people are formally entered into the legal system. The process includes filing and recording specific charges and conducting medical screening, among others.
Along with women in pre-trial custody, many women convicted of misdemeanors and of less-serious felonies (such as non-violent, lower-level felonies) in San Diego County are held in this facility.
The Las Colinas facility opened in 2014, taking over for the previous women’s jail that had served in that role since 1979.
Perhaps the most notable feature of the current women’s facility is that it features an open area booking process. Most women in custody are not moved between different holding cells as they go through booking.
Instead, they are held in an open area that provides access to telephones and restrooms. This can make the booking process less stressful and make it easier for arrested women to get in touch with family, friends, or an attorney.
Who’s In Jail San Diego: Woman Inmate Search
Need to find out if a friend or loved one is in the San Diego County women’s jail? Finding out where a person is held in pre-trial custody is the first step to helping them leave with a bail bond. Here’s how you can complete your San Diego women’s jail inmate search.
Our own pages for our San Diego County offices (including our Shanee office, conveniently located near the women’s jail), offer a free and reliable inmate search tool. You can quickly find where your friend or loved one is held as well as start the bail bond process.
Las Colinas women’s jail also offers a custody information line, which is shared by all facilities in San Diego County. You can place a phone call to (619) 409-5000 to use this service. However, you will still need to set up a bail bond or other arrangement to help your friend or loved one leave custody separately.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Department also offers an online lookup tool to find people currently held in one of its jail facilities. This can be a quicker option than calling the custody information line, although it still requires friends and family members to set up a bail bond or other arrangement separately.

Visiting a Person Held in the San Diego County Women’s Jail
The San Diego County women’s jail offers video and in-person visits for friends, family members, and attorneys who want to meet with women held in this facility.
To schedule a visit for an in-person meeting, a reservation must be made by calling the main facility phone number: (619) 409-5000.
These 30-minute appointments need to be scheduled ahead of time – there are no same-day visits allowed by the jail. The visitation scheduling process is open Wednesday through Sunday, 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before the in-person visit starts to check in and confirm the visit.
In-person visitation is available on all days except Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A maximum of three people can visit with a person in custody at a single time, and no items except for ID cards and car keys can be brought into the facility. All other items should be secured in the visitor’s vehicle or kept at home.
Video visits can be a more convenient option for some friends and family members.
